Joanna Ruley-Garza is a women's fashion designer and wardrobe stylist. She is also a professional makeup artist and advanced aesthetician. She loves all things beautiful and wishs to beautify the world one woman at a time. She has over 15 years of combined experience in these fields primarily in the NYC market.
Joanna started as a lingerie and loungewear designer but soon made the transition over to women's designer pret-a-porter. She launched SEAM NEW YORK with fellow fashion designer, Dori Adler, in 1996. The two soon built up a loyal following of clients including artists, actresses, and business executives. They made their beautiful creations in a raised loft above their Tribeca atelier. They soon expanded into other specialty boutiques and expanded their repertoire to include costumes for Off-Broadway plays and modern dance performances. At the same time, Joanna was busy starting her career in Makeup by working with Scarlett Cosmetics. Joanna also started taking on various stylist jobs at this time.
After the events of September 11th, Joanna and Dori decided to close their shop due to the lack luster business environment and the business's close proximity to the disaster site. Joanna soon relocated to New Orleans in which she expanded her clientele base. She still traveled back to New York 2-3 times a year to hold trunk shows for her loyal fans. At the same time, she started getting involved in the pagentry of Mardi Gras through costume and mask making and elaborate makeup artistry. Unfortunately, Katrina brought that to an abrupt end. Joanna then advanced her studies in makeup artistry and esthetics with Aveda Institute and through her studies under Terri Bergeron, a talented professional makeup artist and graduate of the London Academy of Makeup.
Joanna has recently relocated to the Austin, TX area intrigued by it's natural beauty and diverse and hip group of people. She plans on meshing all her previous experience to work in the growing fashion industry and film industry here. She is currently involved with ongoing makeup and stylist projects in Haute Fashion essay work, fashion shows, figure modeling competitions and weddings and corporate events. She is also currently very involved with the creative direction for Heart House Charity Fashion Show benefitting Heart House, a non-profit free after school program for low income children. Joanna believes in giving back to the community in order to make that community flourish.
